I’ll Read Here, I’ll Read There… I’ll Read Everywhere! #TopTenTuesday

If you’re thinking what I think you’re probably thinking … which is, “Wait, hey, Top Ten Tuesday is on a hiatus, so why are you posting a TTT post?” … well then, my answer to you would be, “Yeah, I know, but I wanted to do a TTT post, so I’m just going to pick an old topic that I haven’t done before.” Cool? Cool.

Well, it is a fine Tuesday morning, isn’t it? I awoke promptly at 6:15 to help my boyfriend pack his lunch for the day, I loaded the dishwasher, I made myself a yummy cup o’ coffee, and now I’ve got my favorite 90’s playlist playing in the background (“Waterfalls” by TLC currently!)… let’s talk about favorite reading haunts, yeah???

Let’s talk about my favorite places to read a book…

One of my absolute favorite places to read? Plain and simple…on my couch! I’ve got a HUGE dark grey sectional that takes up most of my living room, and I have a specific corner (dubbed “the cuddle corner,” or “Rosie’s corner”) where there’s a small table to the left of the arm rest where I can set my drinks, my bookmark, and Amazon fire stick controller. And there’s pretty much a permanent imprint of my butt in said corner — I spend a lot of time there! It’s so comfy, and if you could sit there and just soak it all in, too, you’d see what I mean.

Second favorite place would have to be…reading in bed. Yep, that’s my second favorite place to cuddle up in at my house. Since my boyfriend and I have been together (six years in September), we’ve shared a queen-size bed. Well, when we bought our first house back in November of last year, I told him we HAD TO UPGRADE. I was super tired of him hogging the bed (all 6-foot-6-inches of him!) and practically pushing me out. It was time for a KING SIZE! We purchased a GhostBed and have slept (almost1) peacefully ever since.

1He STILL manages to push me to the edge of the bed…Some nights, I have to threaten to beat him with a broomstick to scoot the heck over!

My other favorite place to read — which might be weird to some people?? But I love to read in the car! BUT OKAY BEFORE YOU START BERATING ME, not while I’m driving. That would be irresponsible. Heh2. I do a LOT of reading on my hour-long break at work (but I also do a lot of snoozing, as well…) and I’ll sit in my car (with the A/C on, ’cause daaaang it’s hot) with my certified car blankie. But then I get all comfy with my blankie, and as I’m reading, I’ll doze off — and this is why I have an alarm set for me five minutes before I have to clock back in. But other than that, I’ll also read while my boyfriend is driving us places. I’ll get a quick chapter or two in when we drive to the gym about three days a week — because he’s a gentleman and does the driving. ;D

2Okay…I’ve done it a fewww~ times, but only from my phone! And mostly with long distances. DON’T YELL AT ME.

Speaking of, the gym is another great place to read! And I must, split this one up as two places, because, well, you’ll see: For one, I love reading while I’m doing cardio! I mostly read from my phone or Kindle, because trying to hold a book and move fast on a machine is a TAD DIFFICULT — try it, and you’ll understand what I mean.

And then, my gym has this cool feature called “Hydromassage beds” where you lay on your back and get a mater-jet massage up and down your body (if you’re a black-card member at Planet Fitness, you could experience the amazingness of this feature). I also really like to read here — although, I have to hold my phone up above my head, and I’ve been prone to let my little device slip through my fingers and BOINK! my face. That’s not pleasant.

Next favorite place to read is in my bathtub! OH MAN. I’ve never really been much of a bath-taking person before (I prefer showers), but I’ve been changing up my routine for the past month or so, and now I love a good bubble bath! And the edge of my tub is wide enough so I can confidently place my book/phone/Kindle on the ledge and not freak out that I’m going to drown whatever I’m reading. It’s also wide enough for DRINKS! This includes kid and adult beverages, so I’ll drink whichever I feel like compliments what I’m reading best. It’s a magical time. I can just sit in there for a couple hours, and play the “Music for Concentration” playlist on Spotify (it’s got beautiful instrumental music that’s best to listen to while reading, in my opinion3).

3AND IT’S THE ONLY OPINION THAT MATTERS…hmm, what?

I enjoy reading at the park, too. Sometimes, if I’m feeling adventurous, I’ll travel down the road on my lunch break at work to this popular little park and sit over there and read — especially if it’s a nice day out. Or, if I’m home, there’s a couple parks not too far from my house where I can go hang out and swing and read my book. I’m also within walking distance of my local library — BUT THEY HAVE WEIRD HOURS THAT DON’T SUIT ME and can you tell this upsets me???

Now I just need a dog /sigh

I can also cook and read at (almost) the same time! If I’m waiting for something to boil, or frying something in the skillet, I’ll just lean over the counter and read a couple pages of my book at a time. Multi-tasking at its finest — except when I burn stuff because I get too engrossed in a book and can’t look away for just. one. second… my boyfriend scolds me about this alllll the time.

Okay, don’t act like you don’t do this too: I read in the bathroom. And no, this is not the same as reading in the bathtub, because…you know what I mean. You know when you gotta be in the bathroom for, like, more than three minutes? Gotta take some reading material with you!! I can’t just sit and let my thoughts simmer, I must stimulate my mind!

Last, but not least, my outside hammock/chair I just bought from Amazon this past weekend. And, well, no, it hasn’t even arrived yet (but it’s on its way and should be here tomorrow!!1!), let alone attached to the silver maple tree in my front yard, but I just know — IΒ just KNOW — it’s going to be one of my favorite places to read, okay??? Why do you have to look at me like that?!

YES IT CAN, stop being a bully! It has every right to be a part of this list! (I mean, this is why I saved it for last, since it technically doesn’t exist yet.) πŸ˜€

Alright, so there you have it! My top 10 favorite places to read my books. I couldn’t even add more, even if I wanted to — until I get a nice, comfy chair in my reading room, which I spruced up this weekend — despite my mental efforts not to do any housework. But oh well, at least I have a place to write on my blog and do artsy things, instead of doing it at the kitchen table and making my kitchen look like a dang mess — ANYWAY, I got off on a tangent…

DEAR READER: So I’d love for you to reveal to me where YOU like to read most! And have you been doing your own TTT posts, even though it’s on a hiatus until mid-August?

Rosie is almost ready for the work day…except for being dressed, combing her hair, and well, applying a little bit of make-up so she doesn’t look dead, BUT SHE HAS HAD HER COFFEE. That’s most important. She is currently singing every. single. word. to “Quit Playin’ Games (With My Heart)” by BSB and fantasizing a little bit about Nick Carter and how she’d still totally marry him if she could, like how she wanted to when she was a pre-teen… But anyway, wish her luck, as she is working with toddlers today! Peace out, girl scout!

  1. I love reading outside, it’s my favourite part of summer. I do most of my reading in bed, as I like to read before I go to sleep. I also read in the car, in fact, reading on transport of any type, car, plane, train, ferry, bus, is how I get most of my reading done!

    1. Reading in bed is always a good strategy to get me to fall asleep lol. I can’t say I’m regularly in any type of transport other than car — I’ve sadly never been on a plane D: — but it’s really a good way to read, if you don’t get car sick! And as long as you don’t miss your stop on the bus/train/etc. πŸ˜‰

    1. Yes, I MUST be comfortable while reading! Definitely makes the experience an enjoyable one! πŸ˜€

  2. Unfortunately, A lot of these I cannot do. I get very bad motion sickness doing almost anything requiring any movement. Cardio? Nope too much movement. While being a passenger in a car? Nope, I feel like literal death. So my bed gets all the action or my couch. I am hoping in my next house for a window nook though. It is my dream space.

    1. Oh no!!! That’s unfortunate, I am sorry. πŸ™ I wish I had a window nook as well — maybe someday I can can get one of these!

  3. TBH, no shame, but reading in the bathroom would probably be #2 on my list – simply because I can concentrate much better there than anywhere else. It’s REALLY weird but even when I need to study and can’t concentrate, I sometimes just rush to the bathroom, sit at the edge of the bathtub and study lmaoo. Weird.

I’ve also started listening to audiobooks while I’m doing cardio. The time flies by so fast!!! Great post. πŸ™‚

    1. The bathroom is a very relaxing place! And also quiet. With great acoustics. Plus, no one will bother you in the bathroom — good tactic! I wish I could concentrate with audiobooks though…I only listen to them if I’ve read the book before. Otherwise I get too distracted and can’t focus on what’s happening in the story. :/
